History

FADVS was founded in 1973 by a group of hospital volunteer directors who were dedicated to developing a statewide resource network to improve volunteerism in the healthcare environment.

In 1989, in an effort to promote professionalism among its members, FADVS was one of the first volunteer associations in the country to develop a certification program. The certification process helps volunteer leaders to recognize their professional skills. Today, many healthcare volunteer directors and coordinators have become recognized as "CDVS."

Since the success of many statewide volunteer programs are a direct result of members supporting members, FADVS recognizes outstanding members with the Sally Sitta Award. This annual recognition is given to a member that exemplifies outstanding volunteer leadership skills.
